Program Descriptions

Week 1: May 26-31, 2024
Imaginative Inventions
Let your kid’s imagination run wild! Campers will complete collaborative and project-based activities that will encourage them to invent new things to boost their creativity, visualization skills, and their ability to think critically. With a little bit of ingenuity, you’ll construct catapults and forts, build amazing planes that fly through the air, and assemble a working light saber to take home. While Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, this camp is 100% fun!

Week 2: June 3-7, 2024
Cooking Around The World
Hello! Bonjour! Konnichiwa! Hola! Ni Hao! Chao! We are dedicated to introducing your little chef to all the world has to offer, one dish at a time. We will create local dishes from scratch, learn proper cooking and preparation techniques, and explore history, culture, geography, and even a little math and science along the way. On our journey, we will discover new ingredients and flavors, challenge ourselves to expand our knowledge and skills, and most of all, have fun!

Week 3: June 10-14, 2024
Mystery Magic
Do you believe in magic? At FLIS Magic Camp, kids are given the chance to peek behind the curtain, peer into the top hat and explore the wonder that is magic! After taking the magician’s oath, our campers will be taught various aspects of the craft. From card and coin tricks to math magic, our students will enjoy working on their repertoire.

Week 4: June 17-21, 2024
Candy Chemistry
AWE-STEM candy challenges using scientific properties to teach kids how to solve problems systematically by opening your own candy factory lab with easy to do candy science activities that will make you feel like Willy Wonka himself. Skittles, M&M’s, Pop Rocks, gum drops, and chocolate are perfect for exploring science concepts. Taste, touch, see, smell, and hear our candy science activities. We will use candy to make your kids smarter and your kids will love you for it!

Week 5: June 24-28, 2024
Disney Inspired Science
Explore our favorite experiments and engineering challenges with fun hands-on Disney inspired STEM activities! Campers will use imagination and creative thinking to complete fun and engaging projects focused on our favorite amusement park and characters. FLIS will cultivate a maker mindset as campers use evidence to solve problems, collaborate on projects and think critically while making their own roller coaster, explore the chemistry of favorite theme park treats, make snow (Frozen), engineer a car (Cars), develop a toy (Toy Story), discover chemical reactions when making a volcano (Moana) and so much more as they discover the enchantment of their most beloved Disney movies and rides in a whole new way.

Week 6: July 1-5, 2024
Olympics
Real-world connections are a fantastic way to get kids excited about engineering and science. The Summer Olympics are here, so it’s the perfect time to harness kids’ excitement and show them how science shapes everything from an athlete’s safety equipment to many of the Olympic events. Campers will get moving, learn about teamwork and the Olympic games.

Week 7: July 8-12, 2024
SLIMEology
Kids LOVE the AMAZING tactile sensory experience slime provides! Gitter, butter, rainbow, flubber, floam, and fluffy slime all provide that fun squishy and stretchy texture that just begs to be played with. While busy mixing and measuring, campers will learn about the unique chemical composition that makes up slime! Who knew leaning about mixtures, molecules, polymers, viscosity, and chemical reactions could be so much fun?

Week 8: July 15-19, 2024
Space Explorer
Interactive and engaging trips to the exciting world of outer space. We will take you to the moons of Jupiter and explore the possibility of life on these distant worlds. Kids work closely together in a hands-on way learning problem solving skills and critical thinking as they work through the principals of STEM to construct Stars, Constellations, rockets, and other out of this world creations.

Week 9: July 22-26, 2024
Crazy Chemistry
Shake up a flask of fun in the lab and become a junior chemist! Our little mad scientists will be encouraged to do what real chemists do: make predictions, design, and modify experiments, make observations, and draw reasonable conclusions as they conduct easy experimental procedures that enlighten young minds. Learn to recognize chemical reactions and mix up a few reactive ingredients for some sensational results. Campers have fun as they make some crazy concoctions!

Week 10: July 29- August 2, 2024
Science Of Art (STEAM)
STEAM takes STEM to the next level: it allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with arts practices, elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal. STEAM removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, inquiry, and innovation.
